About Us

The Sandwich Conservation Trust is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization formed in 1985 for the purpose of preserving natural or undeveloped land in the Town of Sandwich, for habitat protection, recreation, and visual beauty.

The Sandwich Conservation Trust is run by a volunteer board of directors, assisted by members who help with projects or serve as property stewards, for example.  We are a member of the Land Trust Alliance, a national organization, and of the Cape Cod Compact of Conservation Trusts, a regional group that provides us with technical assistance.  We stand ready to help landowners seeking to find the best way to preserve their land.  We also work with the Town of Sandwich Conservation Commission and other agencies when needed.

In addition to accepting gifts of land, Sandwich Conservation Trust holds conservation restrictions on land.  These are legal agreements carefully negotiated and recorded in the Registry of Deeds, in which a landowner abandons the right to build on property, but continues to own the land.  Benefits to the owner include reduction of property tax and value as a charitable donation for income tax purposes.

We publish an annual newsletter, hold an annual meeting in the fall, and sponsor guided walks throughout the year.  If you are interested in our land preservation work, and wish to support us, please call us at (508)888-7629 to learn about membership.
